Blaney urges take-up of free vaccine 11.10.07

INISHOWEN GP surgeries have begun administering free flu jabs to at-risk groups including the over-65s, the chronically ill and healthcare workers.
Deputy Niall Blaney. A local TD urged everyone eligible, to get the vaccine as soon as possible.
"Contrary to popular myth, the flu vaccine does not give you the flu," said Deputy Niall Blaney.
“Flu is a very infectious and potentially serious illness and a new flu vaccine must be given each year.
“For older people and those with a chronic illness, flu can cause severe illness and can even be life threatening."
Deputy Blaney said most eligible
people would be covered for the cost.
“People with either a medical card or GP visit card won’t be charged to visit the doctor for the flu vaccine.
“GPs may charge a consultation fee to administer the vaccine to patients without a medical card,” he added.
