Casting complete for 'Earls' play 28.08.07

REHEARSALS began at the weekend for a new radio play by two Inishowen writers to be broadcast next month.
'This Place From Where the Earls Flew', written by Martin Lynch and Mary Lorraine McHugh, will hit the airwaves on Inishowen Community Radio (ICRfm) on September 14th, to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the Flight of the Earls.
'This Place from Where the Earls Flew' cast members: Juan Gomez, Amanda Doherty, Sean Donegan, Anne Marie Dunne, Doreann McKenna, Hugh Green, Peter Quinn and Shane Carey pictured with the play's authors Mary Lorraine McHugh and Martin Lynch. The writers had a huge response to their recent auditions at the Playhouse, Derry, where they sought male and female actors, ranging in age from 19 to 50, for a number of paid roles in the production. Martin and Mary Lorraine said they were 'delighted' with the turn out.
"The fact that we now have a Spaniard and an American
among the cast members will give the play a truly international feel which is fitting given the nature of the Flight of the Earls itself," said Mary Lorraine.
The chosen group of actors are Juan Gomez of Spain, Amanda Doherty, Sean Donegan, US, Anne Marie Dunne, Doreann McKenna, Hugh Green, Peter Quinn, Shane Carey, Gerard Bonner and Sean Coyle. The group gathered on Saturday at St. Eugene' Hall, Moville, for the first reading under the directorship of Martin Lynch.
'This Place' brings a unique slant to the story of The Flight of the Earls by telling the parallel story of a young couple who leave Donegal for America in 1987 due to economic reasons and, like O’Neill and O’Donnell, never return to their homeland.
It will aired at ICRfm thanks to funding from the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland’s ‘Sound and Vision’ programme. You can catch the play on 105fm and 107.6fm on Friday, September 14th at 4pm.
