BACKED-UP dental
services in Inishowen have been boosted with an
additional dentist providing three extra sessions a
week for medical card holders.
And there are plans for an additional dental surgery
in the town under a review of primary care services
in the seaside town by the Department of Health. |
|
Senator Cecilia
Keaveney recently asked the Health Minister for an
update regarding the number of community dentists
serving the Inishowen area and what efforts were
being made to expand the service.
She was told that there are currently 17 dental
sessions per week provided by |
HSE dentists in
Inishowen serving three dental clinics, namely
Moville, Carndonagh and Buncrana. A dental hygienist
also provides two sessions per week in Inishowen.
"From November of this year an additional dentist
has been reassigned to provide three extra sessions
per week in Inishowen, with the possibility of
increasing the sessions by the dental hygienist also
being examined," explained Senator Keaveney.
“The single HSE dental surgery in Buncrana is manned
full-time but despite this there is a waiting list
for non emergency dental treatment because of the
large population the single surgery has to serve.
"The department are currently reviewing development
plans for primary care services in Buncrana which
includes the provision of an additional surgery."
Senator Keaveney said the feedback she received from
Ms. Harney was "very positive" and she hoped to see
continued progress. |
