Buncrana teen wins top art prize 23.03.07

Buncrana teenager Daire Irwin has a date with the Pharaohs after winning a national art competition.
The 19-year old this week scooped top prize of a holiday in Egypt on RTE’s Afternoon Show Amateur Art Competition.
Daire with his parents and The Afternoon Show's Sheana and Blathnaid. His stunning impressionist landscape with abstract colours impressed the judges who included top Irish artist Jim Fitzpatrick, the man behind the iconic image of Che Guevara.
Daire, a student of the University of Ulster Magee campus, went on to win more than 8,000 public telephone votes on Wednesday.
He described his winning work: “I painted a scenic picture with a tower and an old abbey, adding some abstract colours and bringing my own style to the painting.”
He now gets the chance to exhibit his work in the Art Ireland Spring Collection Fair at the RDS in Dublin from Thursday, March 29th to April 1st.
After that he will have to choose who will join him on his weeklong holiday for two, at the five star Hotel Renaissance Golden View Beach Resort in Egypt.
