Half Donegal population owns car 16.10.07

A TOTAL of 157 people in Donegal get behind the wheel of a luxury Lexus car every day, new figures show.
The statistics from the Department of Transport also show that 27 motorists drive Jaguars while 853 own a Mercedes.
BMWs are the choice of 1,221 people while Audi, Volvo, Saab and Alfa Romeo account for 1,012, 475, 150 and 95 drivers

The league table also reveals that nearly half the population in Donegal now own a car. A total of 55,036 motor vehicles were licensed in the county in 2006.
By far the most popular make of car among Donegal drivers is Toyota with a whopping 9,218 registered in the county.
This is followed by Opel at 6,602; Volkswagen, 5,588; Ford, 4,713 and Nissan, 3,980.
