Pictured after their recent win are Carndonagh Community School senior girls basketball team. At front, from left, Karen Cooke, Eibhlin O' Kane, Kate Roddy, Danielle Doherty, Paul Fiorentini, principal, Caroline Kelly, Danielle Gordon and coach Finbarr Gallagher. Back row from left are Caitlin Moyne, Darine Stevens, Angeline O'Kane, Deirdre O'Donnell, Deirdre Foley and Laura D'Urso. It was a one-sided game from early in the second quarter and started with Carndonagh pressing the opposition in their own half, preventing them from mounting any reasonable attacks.
Their strength lay in the ability to move the ball with pace before the opposition had
time to mount a defence.
Although Thornhill had a few tall players, their influence on the game was kept in check by a strong and alert Carndonagh defence.
A brisk pace was maintained throughout the second half due to CCS's strong and substantial bench of reserve players, all of whom played their part in the victory. Carndonagh took the title with a final score of 52:21. On route to the final the CCS girls defeated Crana College 30:22; Moville Community College 37:35 and Abbey Vocational School 26:22.
