Eleven Moville events groups unite 18.12.07

ELEVEN groups in Moville have joined forces to create one 'super committee' to turn the town into the event capital of the North West.
The events committees involved are Regatta, Raft, Vintage Car, Vintage Agriculture, Foyle Rowing Club, St. Patrick's Day Parade, Christmas Tree Committee, Greencastle Regatta, DylanFest and BeatlesFest and Shroove Regatta.
The heads of all the groups met last week in a bid to restore Moville's reputation as a top holiday town with a co-ordinated programme of events throughout the year.
John Steele was appointed chairman, Gerry McLaughlin, secretary/PRO and Sammy Lyle was elected treasurer.
“Every time people come to Moville, that is our great selling opportunity. When people come for the Traditional Irish Music Festival in mid-February there should be posters and brochures around Moville that let them see what other events will be taking place," said Gerry McLaughlin, who runs the DylanFest.
"Some of those people will have come to Moville and liked it and may be looking for other good opportunities to come back when there is something else on."
He said the visitors would then "spread the word" about what is going on in the Foyleside town.
A quote has already been obtained for 5,000 brochures and it is hoped to have them in the pubs and shops of Moville when people visit from Derry and other places over the Christmas holiday.
"There is great hope that Moville has got its act together and will start to attract holidaymakers in much greater numbers for its enticing series of events throughout the year starting with the Traditional Music Festival in February," added Gerry.
