Inishowen teens grace National Concert Hall 11.02.08

YOUNG Inishowen singers and musicians got the chance last week to perform at one of the country's most prestigious venues - the National Concert Hall.
The local teenagers joined pals from Derry and Strabane for the event which had its origins in the Tuned In – Peace Through Music project.

During five days of workshops last year, they collaborated to form the Tuned in Ensemble and worked on a unique piece of music called ‘The Winds of Change’, commissioned by renowned Irish composer, Vincent Kennedy. ‘The Winds of Change’ received its premiere at the Regional Cultural Centre in October and Kennedy then invited the young musicians to perform his piece again at a concert of his music in the National Concert Hall in Dublin.
The Tuned in Ensemble was joined by the Rathfarnham Concert Band.
"The stage of the National Concert Hall plays host to some of the top musical talent from around the world, and the Tuned In performers took their places on it with verve and enthusiasm," said a spokesperson.
"Their heartfelt performance of ‘The Winds of Change’ was enthusiastically received by the packed audience and in a varied and entertaining night of music the young Ulster teenagers gave a performance to be proud of. The only question that remains for these young people is ‘when’ and ‘where’ next?"
Tuned In -Peace Through Music was organised by the Donegal Music Education Partnership and the Donegal VEC supported by the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation through the Donegal County Council-led task force.
