Moville looks into its HEART 11.06.08

INISHOWEN got a sneak preview at the weekend of some of the 15
hand-carved stone seats that will grace Moville's seafront from August.
A sample of the benches, handmade by Yorkshire artist Michael Disley, were on display during the Inishowen Vintage Agricultural Show at the Carrick Field in Moville on Sunday.
The crafted seats will be installed at Moville Green and Pier on August 22, 2008 as part of the HEART Public Art Trail - a cross border project undertaken by Donegal County Council in association with Strabane District Council.
HEART (Heritage, Environment, Art and Rural Tourism) is bringing significant heritage and environmental regeneration to a total of 12 towns including
Artist Michael Disley at the Inishowen Vintage Show.
Moville, Raphoe, Strabane and Castlederg. As part of the project, award-winning artists were selected to research local history and create suitable and sensitive public art installations.
Michael Disley was at the local vintage show on Sunday where he unveiled a number of the seats. They comprise limestone cubes topped with granite while a number of larger benches are constructed from grit stone and topped with granite.
A number of the seats have an element of local input having been hand-carved by Moville people during Disley's research workshops in the town. The carvings are mainly inspired by local flora and fauna as well as the history and culture of Moville.
