Factory workers film for Buncrana 17.11.08

A FILM reflecting the experiences of people who worked in the local textiles industry, will receive its premiere at the end of the month in Dunree.
Buncrana playwright, Prof Frank McGuinness, who wrote the play 'Factory Girls' will be guest speaker at the official opening of the film and audio-visual installation, entitled 'Remnant', at Fort Dunree.
'Remnant' has been created by North-55 and its artistic director Marie Barrett from Buncrana. Using large-scale cinematic projection, it reflects the experiences of local people who have worked in the linen/garment industry in the North West.
Public screenings of the film will take place at the Saldanha Suite, Fort Dunree, on Saturday, November 29 and on Sunday, November 30, at 5pm.
Ms Barrett will also give a public talk about the project and its development on Saturday, December 6 at 2pm.
Meanwhile, the official opening, on November 28, will include a welcome address by John McCarter, formerly of McCarter's factory and current chairperson of Inishowen Development Partnership. Following a talk by Prof McGuinness, the exhibition will be opened by Sophie Hope of B+B Curators, London. For more information, email north55@eircom.net .
