Academics line up for O'Doherty seminar 13.08.08

INISHOWEN'S McGlinchey School organisers are to co-host a major academic seminar exploring the character of Sir Cahir O'Doherty and his 1608 rebellion.
Entitled 'The O'Doherty Rebellion: Postscript to Flight and Prelude to Plantation', the one-day conference will be held in the Guildhall, Derry, on Friday, August 22.
The McGlinchey School is being joined by the University of Ulster, Magee Campus and Derry City Council's Heritage & Museum Service as co-hosts.
"The conference will explore the motivation, course and character of Sir Cahir O'Doherty's 1608 revolt and its ramifications for the Plantation of Ulster," said a Derry City Council spokesperson.
Speakers on the day will include Dr David Finnegan of Trinity College Dublin; Mr Brian O'Doherty, independent scholar; Dr. Henry Jeffreys of Thornhill College; Dr Annaleigh Margey from the University of Aberdeen and independent scholars Dr Darren McGettigan and Mr Eunan O'Donnell.
