Moville residents see the light

Story: Inishowen Independent
Homeowners of Moville’s Mill Glen development were
celebrating at the weekend after their street lights
were turned on more than three years after the first
of the residents moved in.
The lights came on for the first time last Saturday
night, bathing the street in an unfamiliar orange
glow.
The local Residents Association praised the role the
Inishowen Independent played in bringing the issue
to a satisfactory conclusion. |

In December the
Inishowen Independent ran a front page story about
two estates, one in Newtowncunningham, the other in
Moville, which were left in the dark because of
separate disputes over whose responsibility it was
to provide lighting.
All bar two streetlights in the 46 house Woodthorpe
estate in |
Newtowncunningham had
burnt out without being replaced over the course of
a number of years when local resident Jessica Pond
contacted the paper because of the lack of light
compromised the safety of local residents.
A week after our story ran the Woodthorpe estate got
its lights back.
The residents of Moville had to wait a little longer
for their lights but, according to the local
Residents Association, the matter has now been
brought to a successful conclusion.
Newtowncunningham Councillor Francis Conaghan has
been at the forefront of tackling the issue of
problems in estates across the county. He has called
on Donegal County Council to look more closely at
the ‘takeover’ of estates from developers to prevent
problems like those that at Woodthorpe and Mill Glen
from being repeated in the future. |
