Three cheers for local volunteers 20.08.08

DONEGAL Senator Cecilia Keaveney had commended all those who gave of their time to support the entertainment of others this summer through the many festivals, regattas, shows and sports days.
"While the weather has not been what people may wish for, there has been a huge level of entertainment provided throughout Inishowen in the past few months," she said.
"These shows, festivals, sports days, regattas and other variations on day and night fun took a lot of organising and it is important that we recognise the great efforts made by a small number of people to ensure that towns and villages have events to celebrate."
The Moville-based senator, who completed a report on volunteering while chairing the Oireachtas committee on Community Affairs, said local event organisers also helped attract people to the peninsula providing an economic boost for local towns and villages.
"It remains a duty to encourage people

to think about linking into the voluntary community activism that exists in all our towns and villages and in this way, ensure that the events that happened this year can be replicated next year. "Too often we take things for granted and only miss them when they don't happen. Let us commend the efforts of others this year and lend our support to them in a practical manner for next year. Volunteer work can be fun," added Senator Keaveney.
