CHAMPAGNE corks were
popping in Culdaff on Sunday night when word broke
that the film 'Hunger' had won the Camera D'Or prize
at the Cannes Film Festival.
The production designer on the film about Maze
hunger striker Bobby Sands, Tom McCullagh, is
currently working in Inishowen on the new film 'A
Shine of Rainbows'. |
Northern Ireland-born
McCullagh was having a meal with his family and
other crew members in McGrory's when he got the news
about the Cannes win.
'Hunger' has a number of Irish connections, the
script having been written by Cork writer Enda
Walsh. Bobby Sands is played by Michael Fassbender
who grew up in Co Kerry. |

Arts Minister Martin
Cullen yesterday congratulated the cast, crew and
producers on winning the prestigious award.
"This is the third year running that Irish film has
been honoured at Cannes. Following the success of
'The Wind that Shakes the Barley' and 'Garage', this
Camera D'Or will keep Irish film practitioners in
the world's eye for the foreseeable future." And
it's hoped that Inishowen will also capture the film
world's eye when 'A Shine of Rainbows' hits the big
screen. |
