Hollywood stars bound for Inishowen 07.05.08

INISHOWEN will be star-struck this week when two major Hollywood actors Aidan Quinn and Connie Nielson arrive to begin shooting their new film.
Quinn who starred in 'Legends of the Fall' and 'Michael Collins' and Nielson who appeared in 'Gladiator' and 'One Hour Photo' have leading roles in the new film 'A Shine of Rainbows'.
The arrival of the Hollywood actors this week is the culmination of a year of negotiations for Donegal County Council’s Film Commission.
'A Shine of Rainbows' will be shot on location in Inishowen and Letterkenny and will be directed by Emmy award-winning director Vic Sarin.
Following a round of auditions in Carndonagh and Letterkenny last month, 50 local children have also been cast as extras.
A number of local people have secured speaking parts in the movie including Sharon Simpkins from
Connie Nielson in the film 'Gladiator'.
Greencastle and Laura Doherty from Letterkenny.
Based on the novel by Lillian Beckwith, ‘A Shine of Rainbows’ tells the
Aidan Quinn story of how a lonely orphan's life is transformed by an extraordinary woman who teaches him how to conquer grief and discover the magic in nature and himself.
Donegal Film Commission spokesperson Aideen Doherty said the film was a "wonderful opportunity" for Inishowen, Letterkenny and the entire North West region. She said it would raise the profile of the region both in terms of tourism and as a film location and would bring significant direct revenue into the area particularly for local accommodation providers.
Meanwhile, the film’s producer Tina Pehme said the "breathtaking scenery and overwhelming support of the local community" meant bringing the film to Inishowen was "an easy decision to make".
