Go on, Give it a Swirl...  19.09.08

VOLUNTEERS in community groups, schools, family centres and workplaces across the peninsula are being invited to celebrate their role as part of the national 'Give it a Swirl Day'.
Inishowen Women’s Outreach (IWO) is co-ordinating a scenic walk on Saturday, September 27, 2008 from 2pm from the Diamond, Carndonagh and want volunteers from all groups around the peninsula to take part.
“Volunteers are the heart of our organisation and from what we have seen, they are at the heart of most groups in Inishowen so it’s time we shouted about the vital role they play in our community,” said IWO manager Mary Doherty, “Please join us in celebrating volunteering in Inishowen by taking part in a wee walk round the town, with some tea and craic afterwards.”
Ms Doherty said people may also use the occasion as a sponsored walk.
The Carndonagh event is one of many taking place across the county and country the same day.
“People of all ages and from all walks of life give up their time, energy and skills to help others in Donegal and we want to highlight their efforts,” added Donegal Volunteer Centre (DVC) manager Colleen Boyle.
“We also want to let everyone know about the wide range of volunteering opportunities in Inishowen and across Donegal – you can paint, cook, plant trees, walk a dog, tell stories, offer training or coaching, visit the elderly, organise a clean-up or a collection…..whatever you choose. Everyone has something to offer,” she added. If you would like to contact the DVC, call 074 9126740. For more information about the Carndonagh walk please call Anne or Kath on 93 73337.
