Celebrity gardener returns to Carn 15.04.08

CELEBRITY gardener Diarmuid Gavin returns to Carndonagh next Monday to continue his consultation with locals about his design of their new town park.
The award-winning designer visited the town last month and met with school children, teenagers, the playground committee and older people to get their thoughts on what they wanted from their park.

Donegal County Council has commissioned him to design one of Ireland's most "imaginative and ambitious" community spaces and play parks for the Barrack Hill site.
Gavin has spent the last month developing his plans and overall concept for the park based on the feedback he received during his first visit.
As part of the park there will be a new playground with soft ground and play equipment. For children over six who prefer more creative places to play, the park will also include a uniquely designed landscape

area to spark their imagination and meet their needs.
The purpose of his next visit is to show his initial plans to the Carndonagh community.
"Diarmuid believes it is essential that they have as full an input as possible into what is ultimately their park," said a Council spokesperson.
"He will return to each of the groups he met with on his last visit to get their help in producing the final plan, expected to be unveiled at the end of May."
The design of the new Barrack Hill park will be funded through Donegal County Council’s Public Art Programme while the building and landscaping will be carried out following an open tendering process.
Donegal County Council is inviting all interested locals or groups to attend the next public session on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 8.30pm in the Aras, Carndonagh Community School.
