Crana Handknits among design graduates 21.02.08

INISHOWEN entrepreneurs were among 14 people who graduated last week with certificates from the Institute of Leadership and Management.
The recipients all completed the Donegal Design Directorate Accel Project training to help them realise the value of good design in promoting their products and services.
Rosaleen Hegarty of Crana Knits Ltd, Buncrana is presented with her certificate for completion of the Donegal Design Directorate Training Programme by Michael Tunney, CEO, Donegal County Enterprise Board. On left is Aisling Lynch, Design Programme manager. Among them were Rosaleen Hegarty of long-standing Buncrana knitwear company, Crana knits; Grace Ann Downey of Sharp Design; Lee Gooch of AudioWorks; Catherine Sproule of Guava Juice Bar; Maeve Dunlevy of Dunlevy Distributors and Liam Foy of Foy & Company
“The training programme was great," said Catherine Sproule. “Our old company brand didn’t
portray the company the way we wanted. The training programme took me step-by-step through re-branding the business, and simple design tips like clearly marking the health benefits of our products on the packaging have had an immediate impact on sales."
Liam Foy said he found the course great value.
“Most training programmes I’m interested are either very expensive or based in Dublin or the UK, and in retail, taking time off to travel for training is difficult," he said. “The Design Directorate has provided a really high-quality course at low cost and delivered it here at home.”
The Donegal Design Directorate is looking forward to capitalising on a very successful and eventful first year. It is now gearing up for Donegal Design Week from March 7 to March 14. It will include a series of events to celebrate and showcase the work of Donegal designers while the main event of the week will be 'Show Off', a design exhibition highlighting the new work of local designers in areas such as fashion, textiles, product design, photography, media and visual design. This event will take place at the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny.
