Double delight for brainy twins 21.07.08

CLONMANY twins Elaine and Emer Doherty are celebrating on the double after each getting first class honours in their university degrees.
The sisters graduated from Liverpool Hope University with BAs in Geography with QTS (qualified teacher status).
"Elaine and I attended our local secondary school, Carndonagh Community School and from there we progressed to the North West Institute of Further and Higher Education in Derry where we obtained a Higher National Diploma in Early Childhood Studies," explained Emer.
"Liverpool Hope was highly recommended to us by former graduates of the university. After researching many universities in which to continue our studies, Hope had most to offer in terms of facilities and opportunities available. Alongside this, it had the reputation of being a successful teaching university and so when we were both offered places on the BA QTS course it was difficult to refuse."
Elaine said geography was a favourite subject not least because of growing up on a peninsula

with extraordinary natural beauty.
"Living near the coast, geography has always been of keen interest to me so naturally combining Geography with a BA QTS was the obvious route to achieving my ambition of becoming a teacher," she said.
The dark-haird sisters have plans for further study and are thinking of staying at Hope.
"We are going to enjoy the summer break and look forward to beginning our teaching careers. We are considering furthering our studies, with any luck at Liverpool Hope," said Elaine, who recommended the university to other Inishowen students.
