Mary Coughlan named Tanaiste 08.05.08

DONEGAL TD Mary Coughlan was last night named Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
In a decision that surprised many, newly-elected Taoiseach Brian Cowen named the Donegal South West TD as his second in command.
The appointment to deputy prime minister is a major promotion for the 42 year old Donegal woman who now leaves her most recent portfolio of Agriculture firmly behind her.
A long-serving politician, she was co-opted to Donegal County Council following the death of her father Cathal Coughlan.
She has previously been Minister
