Buncrana Chamber back in business  16.06.08

BUNCRANA Chamber of Commerce is back in business with a new administrator and the reopening of its offices.
Rona McLaughlin has been appointed administrator following the move to pastures new of Deirdre Bradley in February.
The Chamber said that since then, it suffered by not having one point of contact for its members nor a committed administrator to follow through on its objectives.
The business representative group have, in the past, organised trade and fashion shows, information evenings, the Buncrana business gift voucher scheme and has assisted with many other events.
The main aim of the group is to "promote their members, represent their needs, and assist in the economic development of the Buncrana area".
Paddy McLaughlin of the Chamber said: "We are delighted to see the office open and staffed again. We look forward to revitalising the membership, working on new projects and getting back to business as usual and building on the good work done by Ms. Bradley. We would like to thank Seamus McEleney, (BCC), Toni Morrison, (FAS) Nuala McGarrigle, (FAS) and Pauline Coyle (Inishowen Partnership) for their assistance in securing funding and the appointment of Ms McLaughlin."
Mr. McLaughlin said an administrator was essential to ensuring the group continued to "build on the good work of the past seven years".
He said the Chamber would continue as a "lobbying voice" on issues such as litter, traffic, public amenities, parking, tourism and assisting with the development of new businesses.
He said the Chamber was particularly relevant due to the rising levels of unemployment in Inishowen in highlighting the area’s economic issues at the highest political level.
The Chamber office will be open from Wednesday to Friday from 9.00am - 1.00pm and on Saturday from 10am - 4pm.
