Memory lane trip for Carn students 23.04.08

Bus journey planned for some attending ten year reunion?

by Liam Porter, Inishowen Independent

RUMOUR has it that a group of former Carndonagh Community School students who left the school ten years ago, are hoping to take a trip down memory lane next month by travelling to the ten year-reunion on May 4 in a Lough Swilly Bus.
Organiser of the reunion, Joe Lafferty, told the Inishowen Independent, yesterday that he wasn’t sure if the lads in question would carry through with their plans, but said he was certain that however people got there, they would have a great night.

Jonathan Gill, Rachael Higgins and William White at the formal in the Redcastle Hotel in 1998. “There has been a great reaction so far and I know of people coming back from America, England and different parts of Ireland for what should be a great night’s craic.”
Joe explained that the reunion which will be held in the Ballyliffin Hotel on Sunday May 4, will include dinner, a live band and a disco and tickets priced €25 are
on sale in Valu Clean in Buncrana, Norris’s shop in Moville and a number of other outlets.
“We also set up a bebo page and that has proved to be a great success and already loads of people have started to get in contact with people they haven’t heard from in a long time even through the page.”
The bebo page introduces the period in time between 1993 - 1998 as: “A period of good memories with great friends, cringe worthy moments of savage dress sense, doc martins and kickers shoes, spots, awkwardness with the opposite sex, blur v's oasis, The Strand Hotel disco's (and JD's but they were never as good!!), a serious lack of fake tan and plucked eyebrows, and a world before GHD's!”
And according to Joe, who with a few of his friends decided that after a decade a reunion was in order, what they have planned on the night is to have a real laid back atmosphere.
“We really want as many people as possible to make the effort to come along, have a bit of craic and get a chance to see old friends. Already a lot of people have said they will be there and a few of the teachers know about this as well so we’re hoping to see some of them on the night too.”
Those planning to go along can also bring along old photographs or other school memorabilia, although already some have decided to upload the old pics instead to the bebo site.
“There is a good old buzz about the place about the reunion, but there is a limited amount of space in the hotel so people really need to make sure they get their tickets in good time.”
