Film buzz comes to Carndonagh

DOZENS of acting
hopefuls will continue to descend on Carndonagh
today to audition for parts in a new film to begin
shooting shortly in the peninsula.
The makers of 'A Shine of Rainbows' installed
themselves in the local Colgan Hall yesterday with
cameras at the ready and carried out auditions from
10am until 7pm.
The film's producer, Tina Pehme of the Canadian
Sepia Films Ltd., assisted in the auditions by Marie
Louise Stares, said she was "highly impressed" with
some of the talent she had seen so far.
"There have been some really wonderful people coming
to the auditions. Some are from an amateur dramatics
background but the people we've seen so far have all
had different levels of experience which is great.
It's great that people are coming along and want to
get involved in the film," said Ms. Pehme. The
film-makers are seeking women aged 20 to 70; men
aged 40 to 70 and children aged 7 to 12. All the
roles are paid and several characters will have
significant amounts of dialogue in the movie.

Sean Rea from Priestown,
Carndonagh, accompanied his 11-year old son Patrick
to the auditions.
"I came along mainly to support Patrick but I
thought I'd try out for a role myself," laughed
Sean, who has settled in the area from California.
"We'll have a bit of fun with it anyway," he said.
Patrick, however, had no illusions about why he was
there. "I want to be an actor," he said, adding that |
he had recently enjoyed
drama classes locally. Sean was auditioning for the
role of the priest, Fr. Doyle and another character
Captain Fergus, while Patrick was auditioning to
play the character Rory.
Meanwhile, Burt's Michael McGuire, a member of The
Swilly Players, thought he would try out his skills
and auditioned for the role of Fr. Doyle. "I've been
playing Fr. Brest in 'Moll' recently and I also
played Dr. Lennon in 'Knock - the Hill of Mary', so
if it's a priest they want..." he laughed. Aileen McCallan from Buncrana thought she would try out for
a part "at the last minute". As a long-time member
of the Pomeroy Players, she's no stranger to acting.
She arrived at the Colgan Hall to read for the
character Mrs. Kane. "I enjoy the buzz of acting.
It's a great, fun hobby and it gets you involved in
the whole community," she said. The auditions
