Airport manager removed from post 17.01.08

THE manager of City of Derry Airport has been removed from his position following an internal investigation into safety concerns that forced the closure of the airport last year.
Seamus Devine was temporarily suspended last year after an internal investigation was ordered by Derry City Council into the airport's four-day closure last May.
City of Derry Airport. A spokesperson for Derry City Council today explained: "Following the conclusion of the investigation, the officer holding the post of Airport Manager was removed from that post. The Council will initiate a process to appoint a new Airport Manager.
"In the meantime, the existing
interim airport management arrangements remain in place. The former Airport Manager is a qualified air traffic controller. He will remain engaged by the Council in that role."
Derry City Airport was ordered to close last May after the Civil Aviation Authority cited major safety concerns, including a lack of an effective bird control plan and poor runway drainage.
