€4.7m peace package for Donegal 30.01.09

A €4.7m funding package for the county including Inishowen was launched yesterday under the Donegal Peace III Action Plan.
Around €700,000 of the funding will be distributed to community groups and organisations around the county between now and June. The programme will run until 2010. Chairman of the Donegal Peace and Reconciliation Partnership county board, Cllr Francis Conaghan, officially launched the plan yesterday.
He said it was compiled after an extensive public consultation process in early 2008. Cllr Conaghan said it also outlined the type of actions that needed to be undertaken to further promote peace and reconciliation in Donegal.
"It was the people on the ground, through their participation in consultations, and their written submissions, who identified the priorities, objectives and actions that now form our action plan,"
Cllr Francis Conaghan
said Cllr Conaghan.
The total budget for the Donegal Peace III Action Plan 2008 -2010 is €4.7 million.
Cllr. Conaghan said the plan was now in place to be implemented.
He said it was "about action and getting things done". He said the high level of interest in the programme reflected the vibrancy of Donegal's community and its commitment to "working for peace and reconciliation in both their own communities and across the border”. The Donegal Peace III Action Plan 2008 - 2010 is supported by the PEACE III Programme and is managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the Donegal Peace and Reconciliation Partnership.
