'Excellent' turnout by Inishowen

ALCOHOL awareness
advocates have praised the 'excellent' turnout by
Inishowen publicans to recently-held workshops in
Moville.
Sixteen publicans, bar and off-licence staff from
Moville, Gleneely, Carndonagh and Culdaff attended
the Alcohol and Drugs Awareness workshops
co-ordinated last week by the Moville Community
Alcohol Project.
Managers and staff from Rosato’s, The Foyle Hotel,
Rawdon's and McGettigan's came from Moville. Staff
and managers from Kealey's in Greencastle, Carrick
Bar in Gleneely, the Bailey nightclub Redcastle,
Tully’s Bar and Tul na Ri, Carndonagh and McGrory’s
in Culdaff also attended the event. |
Co-ordinator David
Simpson praised these publicans for their
proactiveness and for being "ahead of the game".
“Pubs are an essential part of community life. These
courses helped staff be up to date with the law and
to help them keep their pubs pleasant and
responsible places to be," said Mr Simpson.
"New legislation allows the Gardai to prosecute the
staff who serve someone underage as well as the
landlord themselves. |

Gardai are now legally
allowed to send in ‘test purchasers’ to identify if
selling to underage young people is taking place."
He said the course offered ideas on "good ways of
keeping pubs pleasant places to be in".
"These included having a House Policy on alcohol
consumption and designated driver schemes offering
free non-alcoholic drinks.
“The alcohol course will probably become mandatory
for all pub staff and so the people who attended
will be ahead of the game," he explained. The
courses were paid for by the Moville Family Resource
Centre as part of the Moville Community Alcohol
Project. |
