Bob builds a 'Marry Me'
proposal with stones

WE can today reveal the identity of the lovestruck
romantic who took the plunge in Lough Foyle and
spelled out a marriage proposal to his girlfriend in
Moville.
Step forward, 22-year old Bob Armstrong from
Ballyclare, Co Antrim who proposed to bubbly 23-year
old Nicole Breslin from Pennyburn, Derry when he
fashioned the words 'Marry Me' on rocks in Moville.
Unknown to his girlfriend, Bob slipped out of their
self-catering apartment on Tuesday, July 7 and went
down on bended knee on sharp seaweed-clad rocks in
the lough. |
"We were in Moville
with some friends for the DylanFest and the day we
were leaving, I tidied up the house and told Bob I
was going for a shower before we went home," said
Nicole, whose mum Christine nee Doherty) is
originally from The Moyle, Buncrana.
"He slipped out of the house and went down to the
shore with his friend Oliver McAfee who helped him
write the words on the rocks." |

"I was so shocked I
couldn't say anything for ages. I kept asking him
when he had done it. After a good while he said,
'well, what's the answer?' and I said of course I
would. It was a very romantic thing to do." Knowing
Nicole's not a jewellery lover, Bob thought it best
for her to choose her own engagement ring. But that
day, he did place on her finger a jelly ring from a
bag of Haribo sweets. |

The besotted pair met
two-and-half years ago when she was studying
floristry and he horticulture, at Greenmount College
in Co Antrim. They are both currently studying for
degrees in their respective subjects in Riddle
College, Essex, and are home for the summer. They
have another year to go in college and will save for
at least another year after that before tying the
knot. Bob - who is landscaping in Co Antrim for the
season - and Nicole's identities finally came to
light after Nicole's dad Eddie got in touch with
InishowenNews.com . The excited young couple have
since got another surprise. After reading the story,
Inishowen Community Radio began an appeal for the
mystery man, or 'waterboy', to come forward to claim
a prize for the most romantic proposal. The station
is now giving the couple two tickets to see The
Waterboys in Galway over the August Bank Holiday. |
