Lovestruck proposer takes plunge 10.07.09

by Linda McGrory

MYSTERY surrounds the identity of a lovestruck romantic who literally took the plunge this week to make a marriage proposal in Moville.
The besotted one waded into Lough Foyle to lovingly fashion the words 'Marry Me' underwater with stones. It appears to have taken a significant amount of forward planning and attention to detail as all the stones appear to be the same type and roughly the same size.
The quirky proposal is located underwater on a seaweed-covered rock just below the landmark stone steps near the town's Shore Green. And the proposer, it would seem, intended for it to be viewed from the midway landing of the steps - about 20 feet up. The gesture has since been raising quite a few smiles among locals and tourists walking along the shore path. Enquiries around town as to the possible identity of the proposer have so far come up with zero. Stonemason, snorkeller or perhaps a cheeky little mermaid...let's hope they sailed into the sunset with the result they desired.
