Gaelscoil pupils step out for
Irish week

GAELSCOIL Cois Feabhail
pupils in Moville stepped out recently to celebrate
Irish language and culture during Seachtain na
Gaeilge.
The school got togged out in green to hold a céilí
as part of the festival that lasted for more than
two weeks this year.
School principal, Alicia Nic Earáin explained: "Seachtain
na Gaeilge is the largest annual Irish language and
cultural festival in Ireland, and has been
celebrated for over 100 years, in conjunction with
St Patrick's Day.
“The motto reads 'Croí na Teanga - It's You', in
that it aims to encourage everyone to make use of
what every 'cúpla focal' they may have.” |
Gaelscoil Cois Feabhai
took party in various activities throughout the
festival, and celebrated the end of Seachtain na
Gaeilge with a fun céilí in the school yard. All the
pupils were asked to wear something green into
school that day.
Alicia added: “In the run up to the céilí, the
children enjoyed taking part in the likes of 'The
Waves |

of Tory', 'Walls of
Limerick' and the 'Sweets of May' to name but a few
of the dances the pupils had been practising.
"We also encouraged parents to use whatever 'cúpla
focal' they had with their children at home, so as
to continue to develop the link between home and
school. A number of children from 5th and 6th class
also took part in an Inishowen schools table-quiz
organised by Carndonagh Library and they
successfully returned to school having won second
and third place in the quiz. Maith sibh a pháistí,"
added the local principal.
