Inishowen jobless toll rises again 06.07.09

INISHOWEN'S jobless toll continues to rise while the Donegal figure has now reached nearly 20,000 people.
The number of people out of work in the peninsula rose to 4,660 last month - up 153 from the previous month. Meanwhile, the county total has risen to a worrying 19,895.
The figures for the rest of the county show that Letterkenny now has 5151 people unemployed; Ballybofey, 2,537; Ballyshannon,1363; Donegal Town, 1315, Dunfanaghy, 1466, Dungloe, 2086; Killybegs, 1317.
Deputy Joe McHugh said the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office made for "sombre reading" for Co Donegal.
"As we prepare for the weekend, Donegal is reeling from the news that unemployment in the county has hit nearly 20,000, and that the number of unemployed young Donegal men has increased by 213% since the summer of 2007," said the Donegal North East T.D.
"The Donegal Live Register figures published by the CSO make for sombre reading indeed. The prospect of terminal emigration looms again for Donegal and, unless action is

taken by the Government, the 'Derry Boat' will be appearing on this county’s horizon again."
