Council to get €105K recycling grant 04.12.09

DONEGAL County Council is to receive €104,750 to help with the operating costs of recycling facilities at Carndonagh Civic Amenity Site and bring banks throughout the county.
Senator Cecilia Keaveney welcomed the retrospective allocation is to help local authorities meet the costs of operating their recycling facilities for the period January to June 2009.
"The Minister is determined, even in economically difficult times, to continue to provide support for measures aiding the recovery and recycling of waste," said Senator Keaveney.
"The allocations are based on a combination of weighted tonnage and net operating costs, with particular emphasis being given to the higher costs of dealing with certain waste streams such as hazardous waste and plastics."
The funding is from the central Environment Fund, which is made up of the proceeds of the
Carndonagh Civic Amenity Site
plastic bag and landfill levy.
"Recycling the monies to help and support a range of waste management, litter and other environmental initiatives makes common sense and we can see the link between minimising our waste and then minimising the cost on ourselves as individuals and communities.
"There are great efforts being made at community and Council level and we must continue our quest to be environmentally friendlier," added Senator Keaveney.
