Laid to rest side-by-side 05.05.09

CRASH victims Gary McLaughlin, 21 and his friend Darren Downey, 19, will poignantly be laid to rest side-by-side in adjoining graves following a joint funeral Mass in Burt tomorrow. The local community turned out last night in large numbers for the removal of the remains of the young GAA players who died in an horrific accident in the early hours of Sunday morning in Newtown.
Local priest Fr Michael Porter described the sorrow and sense of loss in the parish. "Gary and Darren were two well known and well liked young men from well respected families.
The communities here in Burt and in Newtown are heartbroken at the tragedy of their deaths," he said. Gary McLaughlin's remains are reposing at his late residence in Ballymoney, Burt. Darren's remains are reposing at his late residence, 476 Pound Cottages, Burt. A large gathering of people is expected to join Gary McLaughlin, left and Darren Downey.
