A RECENT spate of
burglaries in Moville and Redcastle has prompted a
local election candidate to call for communities to
unite around the peninsula.
Sinn Fein candidate for North Inishowen, Sean Ruddy,
said it was particularly important for communities
to "pull together" in the current economic climate.
"It is in the wider interest of all communities to
restore the once prevalent community alert
initiative. Everyone has an active part to play,"
said Mr Ruddy.
"For too long people have become complacent about
the power of a strong community. Do we think about
the well being of our neighbours? Are we doing
enough to protect the more vulnerable members within
our society?" he asked. Mr Ruddy emphasised the need
for people in Inishowen to liase closely with their
local Gardai and immediately report any suspicious
behaviour in their areas.
The Carn-based candidate also reiterated his party's
call for active Joint Policing Committees (JPCs)
"We in Sinn Féin can seen the potential benefits for
the community and have been pushing locally for the
immediate roll-out of our own JPC.
"We believe that it is critically important that a
genuine partnership exists between our communities
and An Garda Síochána. It is also important that the
Gardaí are accountable to local communities and
public representatives," he added. |
