To sunny Spain from City of Derry 15.01.09

CITY of Derry Airport's first scheduled international flight was launched yesterday as Ryanair added Alicante in Spain to its direct flight timetable.
The service will start on March 30, 2009 and will bring wider holiday choice to the region this Summer. Derry Mayor Councillor Gerard Diver welcomed the new route.
"A direct scheduled international flight is a long standing ambition for the city and region and today's announcement will create more choice and greater convenience for passengers. It is a positive way forward for City of Derry Airport," he said.
Alicante is a Mediterranean sun destination perfect for spring or summer breaks and is known for its beaches, water sports and golf.

Airport committee chairperson, Alderman Joe Miller said the new flight would offer "more value and choice for everyone in the region".
"It's our first scheduled international flight for City of Derry Airport and a confident statement of the opportunities that exist for the airport and the region," said Mr Miller. City of Derry Airport also provides direct services to Glasgow Prestwick, Birmingham, London Stansted, London Luton, Liverpool and Dublin. It also provides Summer charter flights to Majorca and Salou.
