A new era in Inishowen
schools’ sport opens next week when Coláistí Inis
Eoghain play their first match in Ulster Colleges
football against St Michael’s of Enniskillen in Burt on
Friday week (throw-in 3.15pm). Established under the auspices of the Inishowen GAA board and the five local secondary schools – Scoil Mhuire, Crana College, Carndonagh Community School, Moville Community College and Gaelcholaiste Chineál Eoghain – Coláistí Inis Eoghain will play in the Rannafast Cup, the Division 1 competition for boys aged under 16 and a half. A combined team will also enter the under 14 and a half Corn na nÓg which gets under way in November. |

Ulster minor championship winning manager Sean Clerkin,
the Rannafast Cup team have been training since the end
of July and are itching for the off. Clerkin, who is
assisted by Robert Farren, Sean Noonan and Laurence
Hegarty, told the squad at Tuesday’s night official
launch that the opportunity to play in Ulster Colleges
football will help them break into Donegal squads at
U16, minor, U21 and ultimately senior level. Trials are still being held for the Corn na nÓg squad, a side that will be managed by Moville Community College teacher Sean O’Hare. “This high level of competition will present young Inishowen players with a great opportunity to build |

on the coaching they have
received at primary schools and the success they have
enjoyed at club level in recent years,” Inishowen GAA
Board Chairman Gerard Callaghan said at an official
launch in Carndonagh GAA club on Tuesday night where
Gerry Doherty, from sponsors SuperValu Carndonagh,
presented jerseys to the teams. “Everyone is thrilled at the huge investment Supervalu Carndonagh have given to the initiative,” Callaghan continued. “Our thanks to Gerry Doherty and we hope they will get good value from their association with Coláistí Inis Eoghain in the weeks and months ahead.” Mr Callaghan also thanked Liam Grimley of Healthwise Pharmacies for sponsoring medical kits for the teams. The Rannafast Cup starts with a match against St Michael’s Enniskillen on Friday week, St Eunan’s College a week later and defending champions Omagh CBS at the end of the month.
