Advantage Burt after win in Dunkineely 03.09.10
Junior A Football Championship – first round, first leg

Naomh Ultan 1-7

Burt 1-11

BURT PUT themselves into the Championship driving seat with a fine four point win in Dunkineely in their first round tie with Naomh Ultan on Saturday night. The Inishowen side trailed by a goal at half time, but hit a purple patch late in the second half to overhaul their hosts and take two point lead with the clock ticking down. Naomh Ultan corner forward Dermot Gallier set up a tense finish when he converted a late 45 to reduce the deficit to just a point.
But Burt full forward Enda McDermott sealed the win with a well taken goal with the last kick of the game.
Although Burt got the first two scores, through Joe Boyle and Paddy McDermott, Naomh Ultan had the better of the first half. Cian Kennedy opened their account in the eighth minute and Dermot Gallier got his first of an impressive scoring performance soon after. A Joe Boyle free and a point from play from Enda McDermott had Burt 0-4 to 0-2 ahead on 17 minutes, but the home side ended the first half strongly Dermot Gallier reduced the deficit to just a point and Aidan Duddy netted a fine goal eight minutes before the break. Sean Blane added a late point as Naomh Ultan led by 1-4 to 0-4 at the break.
Burt drew level within five minutes of the restart through Dara Grant, Brian Sheerin and Joe Boyle (from a massive sideline kick). Declan Murrin got up from half back and Dermot Gallier converted a free to put Naomh Ultan two points ahead midway through the second half. But that was before Burt hit a purple patch, with four answered points. Joe Boyle hit two frees as Paddy McDermott and Dara Grant got on the mark from play with time running out.
Naomh Ultan kept pressing, though, and might have had a goal only for a good save from Ciaran McDermott at the expense of a 45 that Gallier converted to put the minimum between them with three minutes left on the clock.
Burt made sure of the win when Enda McDermott pounced on a lose ball and slammed it to the net.
With Burt playing in the Kilmacud Hurling Sevens next weekend, it’s expected that that second leg will be held at Hibernian Park on the weekend of 11/12 September.
