Buncrana regain U14 title 30.07.10
Inishowen U14 Final

BUNCRANA regained the Inishowen U14 Championship after a fine six point victory over Carn in Clonmany on Tuesday night. Buncrana had endured heartbreak in this competition 12 months earlier when they conceded two late goals and lost to Urris, but they made no mistake this time round and beat a Carndonagh team that didn’t give a full account of themselves on the night.
Danny Monagle was exceptional at full back for Carn and snuffed out a couple of goal chances, but playing down the hill Buncrana dominated the first half with Harry Doherty and Ryan Varma figuring prominently in the scoring stakes. Buncrana led by 0-6 to 0-2 at the break.
The second half was a tense affair as play ebbed from end to end. Christopher McCormick had a storming second half for Carn, but they struggled to get the scores they needed to get back into the game. With John Campbell, Shane McLaughlin and Joseph McGrory putting in powerful second half performances, Buncrana edged further ahead with points from Harry Doherty, Cian Hirrell and Aedan Stokes before Ryan Varma got a decisive goal to give his side a 1-9 to 0-3 lead.
Carn hit back with Matthew McLaughlin getting his second point of the night, and they were desperately unlucky to see a goal chance thwarted when the ball died in the sand in the goalmouth – it would have gone in had it hit grass rather than sand.
Carn did get a last gasp goal from Fergal Doherty, but it was too late to allow them mount a fightback.
That said, Buncrana were the better side over the hour and were well deserving of their win.
