SVP honours Inishowen trio

THREE local men have been honoured for more than a
combined century of service to one of Inishowen’s
most vital charities, St. Vincent De Paul.
Regional SVP trainer Ray McCabe presented special
appreciation medals to John Friel (50 years'
service), Eddie Murphy (25 years) and Sean Gallagher
(26 years) in a gala ceremony at An Grianan Hotel
recently.
During the presentation night Mrs McCabe paid
tribute to the Burt, Inch and Fahan SVP members.
“I would like to thank John, Eddie and Sean for
their outstanding work over the years, caring for
those in need in our community. They have worked
tirelessly and continue to be an asset to St.
Vincent De Paul. Their wealth of experience is
invaluable to new members,” she said. |

One of the trio
honoured, Tooban’s Eddie Murphy said he was
‘delighted’ with his accolade.
Father-of-four Murphy was awarded for a quarter of a
century of service to the charity organisation.
“I’m delighted with the medal and it was really
lovely to get. Many of our members have been
honoured for their service and I am happy to do my
bit to help out in St. Vincent De Paul,” Eddie said
“This charity supports those who are most in need
and if I can do some good to help out then I am
happy to do so. Organisations like SVP are more
vital than ever in these difficult times as we
approach Christmas. Things were rarely as tight as
they are now and our workload has definitely
increased lately.”
Infamous for his antics on stage in the Buncrana
Pantomime, Eddie is currently rehearsing for Jack
and the Beanstalk, which opens in the New Year. The
jovial Tooban man is playing a dame: “I’ll do
anything to get wearing a wig!” he joked. |
