Tributes flow for Donna 01.07.10

by Caoimhinn Barr, Inishowen Independent

“IF we all had Donna’s attitude to life we would be better people.”
That’s how Brendan Callaghan summed up his former employee, Donna Doherty, who sadly lost her fight for life at the Mater Hospital in Dublin at the weekend.

Married to Fahan man Darren with one son, Mark, Donna underwent a heart transplant four years ago.
She took sick on Christmas Eve 2005 and was admitted to the Mater Hospital in Dublin during the first week of January 2006 after a serious problem with her heart was diagnosed. Her transplant operation took place at the end of that month.
In May 2008 Donna married Darren Doherty at Cockhill Chapel. Today she will be laid to rest at the same church.

for much of the last decade, Donna was often ‘sought after’ by customers, who warmed to her buoyant personality.
“Donna had a very bubbly outgoing personality and customers loved her. She really lived life to the full and she was a joy to work with. Donna was very popular here and she will be sadly missed by everyone,” Brendan Callaghan said.
“When Donna got sick she took it in her stride. Even when she was ill, Donna used to call into the shop to say hello to everyone. We could all take a lead from her.”
Donna Doherty (nee Porter) is survived by her husband Darren, son Mark, parents, Gerald and Deirdre, Meenagorey, Buncrana and her brothers and sisters.
