Seeing Beyond Sight: A
Celebration of Vision Impaired Storytelling
DONEGAL County Library Service and the Frances Browne
Literary Festival are inviting blind and vision impaired
storytellers, resident in Ireland, to get involved and
submit pieces for inclusion in a digital anthology to be
launched in the autumn, funded through Creative Ireland.
They are hoping to create an eclectic collection of work
that’ll include all genres of writing: from simple
stories to song lyrics, from spoken word poetry to
slice-of-life non-fiction. |
 |
Submissions may:
• Be inspired by the life and works of Frances Browne
• Reflect the lived experiences of the storytellers
• Be drawn from the storytellers’ imaginations
Submissions can even be an original mix of all three!
Online info sessions will be scheduled to introduce
blind and vision-impaired writers to Frances Browne's
life-story and body of work, provide an overview of
different creative writing styles and offer tips on
establishing a writing practice. The project facilitator
will also be available via email, during the submissions
window, to respond to queries.
Dates for online info sessions:
• Monday 10th March 7pm
• Monday 24th March 7pm
• Monday 31st March 7pm
Interested individuals only need attend one information
session from the available dates.
Submissions window:
• Opens Monday 3rd March
• Closes Sunday 31st August
Writers whose work is included in the anthology will be
invited to its launch during October’s Frances Browne
Literary Festival in Stranorlar. Accessibility will be a
key consideration in the making of the digital
anthology. Multiple submissions from individual writers
are welcome. We’ll endeavour to include at least one
piece of work from each storyteller but editorial
control will remain with the project organisers.
