Tour for Shaun raises whopping €50,000 03.08.14

FRIENDS of an “inspirational” Clonmany man who is fighting cancer have raised a staggering €50,000 to help two charities he says have made his battle more bearable.
Civil engineer Shaun Doherty (26) has been receiving treatment since he was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma in August 2011.
A group of his friends travelled from London to undertake a three-day 350km fundraising cycle from Galway to Donegal in May. Auctions, quizzes and other fundraisers were also held.

The group have now revealed that they have managed to raise just over a staggering €50,019 for Shaun’s chosen charities: the Friends of St Luke's Hospital and the Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust at St James's Hospital.
"This amount of money raised is truly a testament to the person that is our friend Shaun Doherty. Shaun is an inspiration to us all not just those who took part in this tour cycle but to all of his friends and family.
"Throughout this tour we have been blown away by the kindness and generosity of both the general public and the friends and families of riders we met along our journey.
"But it must be said that the welcome in Clonmany was on a level none of us expected. It is something that will be forever etched in our memories," said the cyclists in a Facebook post.
"Thank you to Shaun, his parents Conal and Sarah, sister Maria and brother Paul, his extended family, friends, neighbours and residents of Clonmany for their support and all those who took part in the tour cycle or gave us a push, a shout or a lift up the road. "This has been a remarkable journey. Also thank you to our families and friends and better halves for all their help and support. We will be back next year on a road near you. Thank you all."
