"They call us the 300" 24.04.14

by Linda McGrory

THEY call them the 300.
AN Inishowen town is getting its own Spartan army thanks to a fitness regime that is ABS-olutely transforming the physiques of young men.
People in Moville have been amazed to see a large number of young local men go from regular lads to muscle-ripped Titans who'd fit the bill on the fantasy movie '300' any day.
They've swapped the junk food for super-healthy diets and have ditched the beer in favour of six-packs of a far more impressive kind.
Gym owner Harry McQuillan of HMQ Fitness in Moville.
Their transformations have come about since joining Harry McQuillan (29) at his new gym. The young dad opened his doors just over two years ago but already he and his V-shaped clients have been sweeping the boards in the competitive disciplines of body-building and fitness modelling. Harry took a team of six to the Northern Ireland Fitness Model Association contest in Belfast last month and all came home with prizes.
A large percentage of his ‘transformation’ clients have become so motivated they're now competition-ready bodybuilders complete with tiny shorts, oil-up pecs, abs and thighs to sigh for.
They regularly attend his rigorous 6am bootcamps that include gruelling sprints in the nearby hills, squats, push-ups, cardio workouts and intensive iron pumping sessions.
Body builder and senior trainer, Paul McGowan, left and Ruairi Dougal who picked up awards at the recent Northern Ireland Fitness Model Association.
One young female member even rises at 4am to make special nutritional meals and train before college.
Harry's dawn drills have also been known to bemuse the odd reveller coming home from a late night party. But the Greencastle man says anyone can become a body builder.
"You don't need to go to extremes. You can train for the feel-good factor and for a healthier lifestyle," he said.
Senior personal trainer, Paul McGowan (27) from Redcastle picked up a whopping five awards at the Belfast contest for his super-toned frame. Paul admitted it is probably unusual to have so many competitive body-builders in one small town. "They're calling us the 300 around the town," he joked.
