Derry Mayor joins President's state visit 08.04.14

TODAY'S official state visit to the UK by President Michael D. Higgins has been welcomed by Derry Mayor Cllr Martin Reilly.
Speaking in advance of travelling to London to be part of the state visit, Cllr Reilly described it as a "hugely significant" event in forging trade and tourism links.
“This visit is hugely important in many ways, in particular for the many Irish diaspora that are living all across Britain as well as politically and economically in strengthening our trade and tourism links with our nearest neighbour," said the SDLP councillor.
Our city has unique links with London and I'm looking forward to getting the opportunity to promote Derry when attending the City of London dinner in London's Guildhall on Wednesday night, as a guest of Mark Durkan MP.
Cllr Reilly will also be a guest at Westminster and the concert in the Royal Albert Hall celebrating the best of Irish music and culture on Thursday.

“This unique visit will afford me the opportunity to inform MPs and key influencers in London of the success of 2013 City of Culture and to outline what we've planned for 2014 and beyond, as well as forge important business, trade and tourism links,” he said.
