League Super Sunday Showdown 15.12.11

by Caoimhinn Barr, Inishowen Independent

THIS weekend will go a long way to deciding the ultimate destination of the Inishowen League Premier Division trophy with the top four teams all clashing in crunch ties across the peninsula.
With Aileach, Clonmany, Glengad and Moville all gunning for glory, this year’s campaign has been one of the closest in years and looks set to go to the wire.
In the last series of games before the Christmas break, Darren Bredin’s Moville Celtic team must overcome Brian Bell’s Aileach if they are to keep their lingering title hopes alive. Six points behind the Lakesiders, the Hoops can afford nothing less than victory.
Fifteen miles north-east of the Glencrow venue, champions Clonmany Shamrocks face a tricky trip to the Crua to take on Glengad United, where the winners will fancy their chances of landing the coveted title.
Moville blew the title race open last weekend by holding Glengad to a 2-2 draw while Clonmany had Ray McDaid to thank for a last second winner against Redcastle United.
After a shock defeat to John Logue’s Redcastle twelve days ago, Aileach steadied the ship with a come-from-behind win over Quigley’s Point and Brian Bell could have one hand on the Premier trophy again if his team win in Moville and Clonmany hold Glengad.
Dark horses turned title favourites, Liam McClean’s Glengad will welcome back frontman Terence Doherty to a potent attacking line-up this weekend and Clonmany will need to be at their very best to slow down the league’s top finishers.
While Aileach, Clonmany and Moville will all have five league games left after Sunday’s showdown, Glengad’s games in hand could yet prove crucial. All of which points towards an exciting end to the season.
