Kieran’s for the high jump 24.03.11

BEING 11 years old and for the high jump usually means trouble, but Burt youngster Kieran Brady was on top of the world last weekend as he won the Irish National U13 High Jump title in Magherafelt.
The youngster set a personal best of 1m 37 centimetres (4 feet 6 inches) in winning the title, beating his nearest challengers by 7 centimetres. Indeed, the 11 year-old’s performance would have been good enough to gain him third place in the U14 competition.

A fifth class pupil in St Mura’s NS, Burnfoot, Kieran has been competing in the high jump discipline for just two years. He placed third in Ulster and fifth in the All-Ireland outdoor championships in 2010.
Proud mum Kathleen Brady said that only drove him on.
“He’s been training twice a week under Noel Wilkinson at Finn Valley and they’re raving about his talent and looking forward to the national outdoor championships.”
Those national championships will take place in July and Kieran’s coaches believe that, with some really focused work, he can achieve 1m 45 centimetres. (Inishowen Independent)
