Priest to hold bikers' mass 19.08.11

A local priest will park his 1,000cc wheels this Sunday for a special mass for motorcyclists.
Fr Gerard Sweeney will hold the service for motorcyclists at St Aengus Church, Burt, Co Donegal. A keen motorcyclist for 17 years, Fr Sweeney said he was urged by his biker friends to hold the blessing.
"I held a mass for bikers when I was a hospital chaplain in Omagh a few years ago and there was a very good turn out. A few of my biker friends here asked me if I would hold another one for them." Prayers will be said on the day for all bikers who died on the roads in the past year.

The mass and blessing will be held at 1pm and will be followed by a ride-out around the local countryside. A collection will be taken up on the day for the local RNLI lifeboats. Fr Sweeney said he admired the selfless work undertaken by RNLI volunteers throughout the year.
The 45 year old cleric loves the freedom of his BMW motorbike and often travels abroad with biker friends. Previous trips have included Lourdes and the Alps.
Fr Sweeney said he loves the 'freedom' of biking. "It's great to get out in the fresh air and clear the head," he said.
